Be Aware
Some persons, including criminal elements may approach you and ask you to carry some items for them on the flight. Do not carry items for other people, particularly if you do not know the persons and the contents of the package, parcel or baggage.
Your First Time?
For first time travelers, you have to visit the relevant airline check-in counters to check-in if you have not done so online.
Check In
At the check-in counter, the check-in agent will verify your identity by checking your passport and visa details, baggage (number of pieces and weight) and ask you some security questions regarding the contents of your bags and whether you packed them yourself. The agent will then check your e ticket, flight details and cross check your passenger information with the database. Once all documentation is in order, the check-in agent will issue you a paper boarding pass.
Post Check In
Following check-in, you will need to make your way to the international departure screening point. You have to open your passport to your bio data page and have your boarding pass ready to show the security officer at the entrance to the international departure screening point. The officer will conduct a passenger face to passport to boarding pass match to verify identity and confirm that you are a bonafide passenger. Once this is completed you will present yourself for security screening at the screening point.
Post Online Check In
If you have already checked in online, you will have to visit the check-in counter ‘bag drop area’ to drop off your bags and pick up a boarding pass if you have not already done so. You will follow the same process above.
Screening Process
At the screening point you will have to divest all metals on your person and put them in the tray. If you are wearing thick metal toe cap shoes, heels, or belts you have to remove them and place them in the tray for screening. However, if you have a metal plate inserted in your body or have a pacemaker inserted, let the screener know and request for a private screening. You will then be subjected to a pat down search in a private room by 2 security officers of your gender.
Customs & Immigration Process
After being screened, you will have to clear customs and immigration desks before going up to the departure lounge to await your flight. Regular announcements will be made on the PA system to advise passengers of their flight departure times and the gates from which they will be departing. Flight information screens with the same information are also available in the passenger departure lounge.
Unattended Baggage
Do not leave your bags unattended and inform security if you see or hear something suspicious. Be prepared for the unexpected and remain vigilant.
